Autumn Adventures: Fall Garden Activities with Children

Hello crisp mornings, falling leaves and slower days!

Fall is one of the favorite seasons at Soul Farmer.  We enjoy the last of our tomatoes, start prepping the garden beds for the winter crop and start the hibernation phase of the year.

This time of year can be harder to keep kids engaged in garden activities. They’re tired of pulling weeds, digging holes and watering.  Here are a few fun ideas to keep kids engaged in gardening, connect with nature, learn about plants, and develop essential life skills.

Nature Journaling:

Encourage kids to keep a nature journal where they can document observations, draw pictures, and note changes in the garden over the fall season. This helps develop their scientific observation skills.

Planting and Harvesting by the Seasons:

Involve the kids in selecting what will be planted based for the season. They can learn about where their food comes from and even help prepare meals with the fresh produce. In Autumn, we like to grow cool-season vegetables like carrots, radishes, dark leafy greens and lettuce.

By incorporating these fall garden activities, you can create a love for gardening, the food they eat and develop important life skills in the process.

We hope you’re able to slow down, enjoy the cooler air and find some time to observe your garden.
