Spring Activities

Get outside! There is no bad weather, just bad clothing.

Some ideas for embracing spring and getting outside so your child can entertain themselves.

Create nature mandalas: collect rocks, twigs, leaves, petals to create patterns and pictures on the sidewalk or in your yard!

Bring a bucket or basket on a walk or neighborhood stroll so your child can collect small items found in nature. Young children have an interest in tiny objects, so they will love discovering and gathering tiny pebbles, pieces of tanbark, leaves or stems. We love the scrunch bucket for collecting, and then collapsing in your purse or bag to take home.

Follow your child’s interests! Take it slow, if your child wants to stand and watch water drain into the gutter, or observe a squirrel racing up a tree trunk, take the time to observe and listen.

Flower Arranging: pick local wildflowers arrange in small vases with appropriate sized garden shears and small vases or jars.

  • Bring a clipboard with pencil and paper on any outing, your child can write or draw all of the things they see at the park, or on the beach.

  • If it’s raining, layer up and stomp in puddles! Nothing a child loves more and if you are mentally prepared to get wet, you will love the joy in their experience. Bring a towel or change of clothes if you anticipate the soiled attire may be a problem later.
