Anxiety Books for Children

Raising pandemic children is no joke. Many parents are noticing and observing anxious tendencies in children. Here are some books and ways to support your child as they process different emotions.

  1. Talk about it. Create a cozy time to have one-on-one time with your child so there is a window for them to express feelings. Model it for them. “Today, I was feeling a little nervous… and here is how I comforted myself…”

  2. Offer a way to self-soothe. Maybe it’s a worry doll with whom your child can tell secret fears to, or for older children, a kimochi to identify and communicate feelings with. Or maybe just a stuffed animal they already have that they can snuggle when feeling upset.

  3. Create a calm space or calm ritual. Whether it’s taking deep breaths, or looking at a family photo album, find out from your child what will help them feel better in times of upset. And offer the techniques that work for you!
