A Montessori Approach to Valentine’s Day

Though Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday, it can also be used as an opportunity to encourage your family to connect with the ideas of sharing love, kindness and appreciation for those important people in their lives. In the Montessori classroom, the children may not be expected to share the typical token Valentine but are introduced to the spirit of generosity through letter writing, or verbally expressing feelings and emotions. Books can be an insightful way to bring the spirit of fondness, affection and gratitude. Spread love!

  1. Number heart counting: using or writing a set of numbers 1-10, invite your child to count the number of corresponding candy hearts.

  2. Heart Shaped Lei’s or decorative banners.

  3. Card Sewing

  4. Cut out different sizes of heart shapes on water color or construction paper. Finger paint, water color or stamp on top!
